First In






I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Yantic, duct work fire 03-31-09

Around 08:15 hrs. Norwich Fire dispatched Yantic to 33 Wisconsin Ave. for a telephoned report of smoke in the Bldg. at WDJ Woodworking. On arrival Car-3 (Chief Blanchard) confirmed on scene witness accounts of an active fire in the shops sawdust retrieval overhead duct work, a moderate smoke condition was also taking a hold of the occupancy. At that time Taftville's Tower 25 was requested along with E.T. 21, to the scene, EGPFD was put on standby in their quarters. After about 45 minutes of duct-work dismantling and removal from the building the incident was placed under control and units were returned to service. Well I have had this 2nd site for a little while now. It is work in progress........ But to push me along I have decided to release it. Vernon 2nd alarm 03-29-08

Vernon fire responded to 42 Elm St. at about 12:40 hrs. A fire officer who just cleared a smoke in the bldg call a couple of blocks away spotted smoke in the area of this fire. On his arrival he found heavy fire from floor #1 C side with it extending. First due companies made a very aggressive interior attack. Mystic 1st alarm 03-29-09

About midnight Mystic fire to 1 Water Street, for a reported dumpster fire. When first due arrived they reported a active building fire. Command requested a 1st alarm response adding 1 ladder and 3 engines. No dumpster was visible behind the structures.

Baltic Car/brush fire 03-20-09

Around 19:00 hours Baltic responded to behind a house on Lussier Heights in the woods for a car fire involving brush. The vehicle was located approx. 1/2 mile in the woods on a hill. Baltic, Lisbon F-154 (brush truck), and an engine from Occum for water and man power, which were never used. F-154 went into the woods with Gator 124(First call). First arriving Baltic Engine's crew were transported in to the vehicle by one of the home owners on their tractor to contain the brush fire with hand tools and water cans.

Hartford, CT members operating at 2nd alarm at 183 Wethersfield Ave. 3/21/09 1045 hrs.

New London 2nd Alarm 03-17-09

New London Fire responded to 281 State St (the Mohegan building) for a reported fire alarm, on arrival they found a apartment fire on the 8th floor. Command requested a 2nd alarm. Crews entered the apartment and rescued an occupant with burns and transported them with L&M medics to the hospital. The fire was under control in about 20 mins.

Taftville MVA with fire 03-10-09

Taftville fire responded to Merchants ave and Harland road for a car vs. house with fire the house was reported as a exposure. TFD arrived and reported that the house was involved and started M/A (Occum's2 engines and Yantic as FAST.) For possible extension. All occupants were out of the car that was heavily involved. The fire was knocked down before entering the home. DEP was notified for a ruptured fuel tank.

Manchester, Ct (MFRE) MVA 3/10/09

Manchester, Ct (MFRE) Responded to a MVA on I-384 EB between Exit 1 & 2 just before 1300 hrs. One vehicle rolled over into a tree. Car 23 reporting extrication needed and that the Pt. was in traumatic arrest. Medics 1 & 2 transported to Hartford Hosp. Engines 1and 2 were assigned with Engine 4 and Quint 3 being special called.

East Hartford's new Ladder 1 03-09

East Hartford's new Ladder 1. 2008 Seagrave 95' baker/scope. Was delivered today and was told it should be in service the beginning of April. Members were just starting to train with it. The decal is on the side of the bucket and was told that on the other side the company patch was being made into a decal and would be put there.

Franklin MVA 03-10-09

Franklin & Bozrah were dispatched to a rollover on Pond Rd (Rt.207) due to black ice. No serious injuries.

Hartford, Ct 2nd alarm 03-08-09

Hartford, Ct 2nd alarm 284 Barbour St 2310 hrs. Sounded like fire was in the hallway and walls floors 2 to 3.





New London W/F 03-07-09

New London Fire responded to Broad St. For a reported house fire on the arrival of Eng-11 ( Eng 21, Truck 25 and Amb-200 were operating at a elevator emergency) They found fire showing from one window on the 2nd floor. Command requested a special call for C-25 FAST. Eng -11 made a quick knock down. The fire was under control in about 15 mins.

Bolton MVA 03-06-09

Bolton responded to I-384 in the notch @2345 hrs. Due to location only lifestar was photographed.


Blue Hills FD (Bloomfield, Ct) 03-04-09

Blue Hills FD (Bloomfield, Ct) responded at 2030 hrs to 256 Park Ave near School St. Sounded like fire was in the walls and attic. House was about 100 years old.

Manchester, Ct (8th district) W/F 03-04-09

Manchester, Ct (8th district) 80 Sheldon Rd about 0930 hrs. They found W/F in the duct work of an exhaust system for the bldg. The system is used to remove dust from fan blades that are being polished. The filters in the system caught fire. Mutual aid form MFRE to the scene and Bolton and S. Windsor for station coverage.

Worcester 5th Alarm 03-05-09

Worcester fire struck a 2nd alarm on arrival at 167 Pleasant St around 3:40, by 4:40 it had reached a 5th due to heavy fire conditions on floor # 3 & 4. Several civilians were removed over ladders in the early stages of the fire and 3 firefighters were injured with minor burns and other non life threatening injuries when floor # 3 flashed over during what was one of several futile attempts at interior attack. Shortly after going into defensive mode, the roof and part of the #4 floor collapsed. The Church on the D side had hand lines stretched to the steeple when a small fire ignited at the tip. The Photos are very late into the fire
