Southington, Ct. had this general alarm, about 1215 hours. They found a active fire within a large garage, that a local car club was renting. The club lost several cars in the fire. Reportedly earlier in the day 2000 gallons of diesel fuel was delivered to the business.NFI

Central Coventry RI, A working fire was transmitted for 1 Stuart Dr. First due reported two Patient with burn injuries. Fire was showing from one window extending rapidly. During this fire several firefighters bailed from the 2nd floor. Crews worked this fire for a few hrs. Both occupants were transported to the hospital. The fire is underinvestment.

Vernon 3 car MVA w/pin 01-15-12

Vernon fire - Ems responded to I84 W/B west of the exit 65 on ramp, for three vehicles MVA involving with 2 of them being rollover's. Life Star responded but after landing had mechanical problems and was unable to transport the injured person.

Bolton fire, responded to this rollover accident at 1100 hours, on RT85 IFO Fish Family Farm - car vs deer into trees. The two occupants had to be removed using the Jaws of Life. One person was transported by ground and the other was transported by Life Star helicopter.

Manchester, 2nd alarm 1/11/12

Manchester fire had this 2nd alarm at 22 Bond St on 1/11/12 @0028 hours. Original call was for a structure on Myrtle St to the rear of 7-11. A second call reported the fire on Delmont St by 7-11. Unfortunately Manchester has two 7-11's on the same street. Occupants made it out safely.

Occum, 2nd Alarm 01-12-12

Around 1:am Taftville fire was dispatched for a possible fire in the area of Canterbury and Old Canterbury RDs. Norwich Fire updated Car-2 it maybe a barn fire then stated that they now were receiving several calls and a few from I-395. Car-2 arrived and found at least three barns burning and reported that the fire is in the Occum's district. Yantic was started as FAST. As of 03:00 the fire is still active and will be under investigation.

Taftville firefighters forcing entry to the property

Taftville fire was dispatched to 40 Canterbury Turnpike for a reported house fire. With in min's NPD patrol officer reported a fully involved house. Car 2 added Yantic with Mohegan Tribal for FAST. Car-3 confirmed a 2.5 story home fully involved. TFD set up in front of the building and Yantic laid in form a hydrant about 1500'ft down the road. Do to the heavy fire conditions and that the rear was starting to collapse a defensive operations was directed. Tower 25 set up on the A side and several 2.5s and blitz fire were operated on the house while lines cooled on both exposures. With checking with neighbors it was determined that the home was vacant. The home was heavily damaged and the fire is under investigation by Norwich and the state FMOs

Plainfield (Wauregan Section) Atwood Hose District. W/F+ 01-09-12

Wauregan section of Plainfield, Atwood hose fire was dispatched for smoke in the area found the former fire station on fire at Wauregan RD at Chestnut at that time the assignment was upgraded too Moosup E194, L194, ET 294 - Mortlake ET190, ET 290 - Central Village for FAST. Do to building conditions and the amount of items in the building, the pre-plan called for do not enter. The building burned for several hours. Extra M/A was requested. The FMO is investigating.

This building was the original Atwood Hose Firehouse back in 1896 and had been added onto through the years. Maloneys pic with the group of Firefighters to the left lower corner IS the original 1896 section of the building built by the then Wauregan Textile Company to house the 1896 hand drawn hose cart.

It has been used as a cafe, new-stand, coffee shop, doughnut store, cleaning supply building and pizza restaurant. It has been boarded up and abandoned for 15+ years.

Because it was labeled "Do Not Enter" we had a difficult time getting to all the fire. Again as Maloney stated it was packed with trash top to bottom. Definitely an elevated master stream application.

As I type this, the Plainfield FM has announced the cause of the fire was arson and is working with the State FM in the investigation

At 12: 24 Groton Fire alarm dispatched Subase Fire to 239 Ohio Ave for a reported fire burning on the wall, C-1 leaving the lower base station reported smoke visible in the general direction. C-21 found heaver smoke from the rear with lighter smoke from the front eves. A moderate fire condition was found in the rear extending into two apartments of a 8 plex. C-21 knocked the exterior fire down and pulled the storage area ceiling to find active fire in the building. C-11, 15 and 200 worked the interior of both units, G-33 and G-15 added with the overhaul. A-25 Was assigned FAST. The fire was under control in a short time.

Somers, Ct had this general alarm church fire at Rt 83 & Rt 190 at 2335 hours. They were dispatched for smoke in the area and on arrival had a working fire in this church. Newington fire, was dispatched around 14:15 hours to 85 Woodsedge Dr. The fire was in a 3 story wood/brick apartment building. This building was located at the very rear of the complex. This building was also built on a hill so the back side (approach side) only had 2 floors showing. The fire started on floor #1 with extension to the apartments above on floors 2&3. Vernon fire responded to Valley Falls park. for a female who fell 20'-50' down a cliff on the rails to trials by Valley Falls park at 09:03 hours. The FD using UTV-241 was able to to remove the female to station 241 for a Lifestar (using a spare helicopter) transport to the hospital.

New London fire A-31,35,11,100, BC 1 on the initial responded too 2 Boulevard Ct., for a house fire, Battalion upgraded the assignment due to multiple calls, A- 21,25,200. A-31 arrived and reported the front of the house fully involved on the outside. The Battalion requested the medic for injured occupant, They were transported to L&M. Crews knocked down the fire in a short time, Majority of the damage held to the exterior of the building.

West Hartford was dispatched to 46 Argyle St. for a house fire. The fire went too a 3rd alarm just before midnight. Mutual aid from Hartford, Farmington and UConn's cascade assisted at the scene.

Detroit MI, Box Alarm 11-01-11. 12843 Montville

Detroit Fire dispatched a Box for Montville and Buena Vista around 16:00. We arrived as the engine was stretching, The truck head to the roof for ventilation. The officer from the truck informed the Chief that this was the third fire in a short distance and someone may be walking down the road and lighting vacant buildings. The fire was contained in a short time. This will was the last fire of our trip. We raced off to the airport to catch our ride home. This trip was slower then the past few years for the Devils night 3 day time line. The next few days the fire activity returned to normal.

Detroit MI, Box Alarm 11-01-11. Linwood and Tyler

While taking in a Box (see previous post) Crews reported this fire in a dwelling one block up at the intersection of Linwood and Tyler. The fire was in the rear of a 2.5 story brick extending to the attic. Crews vented the roof and and worked all floors to extinguish the fire. As we were clearing a box four blocks over came in.

Around 15:30 we were just fishing up with our urban exploring trip, a box came in 5 mins away on Linwood. As we were heading in crews arrived and reported a small fire in a bar and then reported a 2nd fire one block over on Linwood and Tyler, The bar fire assignment was reduced to 1and 1, and a 2nd box was dispatched for Linwood and Tyler we walked over to the 2nd fire.

Around 5:am after a slow night, of chasing some box's with little action. We dedicated to talk a slow ride to the motel, down Gratiot. A box was transmitted on a street two block behind us. We headed down the road and heard one of the companies state "we can see it" as they were leaving quarters then as they arrived gave fire threw out! We arrived with in a minute after that. to find a 2.5 story dwelling "FULLY INVOLVED" with fire towering over the the exposure. The first in engine worked the exposure building but had a hydrant problem, The 2nd due was directed to dump their monitor on the primary dwelling. The smell of Gasoline was strong in the street. The truck set up for master stream operations. After a short time the dwelling collapsed and the chimney just missed the firefighter in the yard.

Detroit fire responded too Gratiot Ave and Faircrest St. for a 2nd fire in the dwelling in 24hrs. The first was in the morning of the 31st. the fire was in the 2nd floor wall and attic area. Crews used foam and overhauled the fire in a shorttime.

About a hour after the last fire cleared about two mile south on Gratiot on the corner of Conner. A box was transmitted for a dwelling fire. Once we rolled out of the parking lot we could see the header. We arrived just after the engine dumped the monitor on the first floor. Crew stretched lines and the truck went to the roof to open up. The full 1st floor was involved at one time. Crews worked the dwelling for about 30 mins to bring the fire under control.

While sitting a the CVS parking lot I noticed smoke though the tree line down the road, We head in that direction, As we turned the corner Detroit dispatched engine 46 for a pole fire. We noticed fire showing from the 2nd floor of a dwelling. The neighbors were Calling 911, Paul told them to make sure they know it was a house fire not a pole on fire. The response was delayed do to local company on a 30 min rehab from a earlier fire. Just as engine 46 arrived, the fire pushed out the C side window and started the exposure dwelling on fire. For the first 10mins 4 firefighters controlled two fire at the sometime. The rest of the assignment arrived and helped with overhaul.

Crews as always made a quick knockdown of the main body of fire and worked to control the fire in the exposure building. As we arrived a fire one block over was braking out. Several buffs reported this too command and a 2nd box was transmitted to this location. The next Detroit post will be that fire.

Putnam 2 working fires. 10-28-11

Around 11:am Putnam Fire dispatched a fire in a commercial building off Kennedy drive and Canal St. While they were responding a 2nd fire was dispatched for the same street but different location. One was Woodstock Line the 2nd was Palleflex. The buildings were about 500' from each other. Putnam responded to Woodstock line with fire coming from a large fan on the B side of the building. East Putnam worked a minor fire in the Palleflex Building. M/A from Danielson and Woodstock's aided in the Woodstock line fire. Community and Pomfert also responded. Both fires are under investigation.

East Great Plain 2nd+ alarm 10-26-11

At 10pm EGPFD was dispatched to 340 West Thames St (Sure Fire Company) for smoke from the building. First due officer reported smoke showing and ordered a 2.5 line and forcible entry to the front of the building. The building is about 30x60 with the rear being 2 storys. Once the front forced heavy smoke pushed out. A 2nd Alarm was requested. Lines were placed inservice in the basment storage area and the office floor area. After a while the fire jumped to the cockloft area while crews were venting the roof. Condition deteriorated and all companies were removed from the building. At this time master streams were placed in service. After a short time crews re=entered the building for overhaul. The fire is under investgation by the NFO and the State FMO.

First arriving found a heavily involved building and requested a tanker response. The fire was well advanced in the vacant home. The fire is under investigation

Bozrah RV Fire w/exposure 10-09-11

Bozrah fire was dispatched around 10:50 for a auto fire to the rear of Fitchville Auto. The arrived to find fire shooting above the building from the rear. The encountered a RV 50% involved with the building 12ft away and a Trailer full of tires starting to burn. Command request a working fire assignment, Yantic, Franklin and Mohegan Tribe for FAST. A 1.75 hand-line was placed in operations too control the fire with exposure lines stretched. Minor extension in to the trailer, with some heat indication on the area of the Building.

EGPFD was dispatched for a person having seizures in the area of McDonald's on Rt-82, They found the car located in a small pond several hundred feet from the reported location. NFI at this time.

Bozrah MVA w/Fire 10-02-2011

Bozrah fire was dispatched to Rt-2 West bound for a reported MVA with fire south of exit 22, around 08:00. They found a one car into the center median with the engine compartment on fire. The occupants exited the car, injuries unknown. During the incident heavy rain was falling the roads were very slippery.

Franklin 2nd Alarm W/Tankers 09-29-11

Franklin fire with Baltic and Lebanon were dispatched to 44 Ayer RD for a kitchen fire around 14:20, Then notified they were receiving several calls. Fire officer reported a working fire, FAST Team and tankers were added at this time. Fire was showing from several window and extending rapidly. Crews work on knocking down the heavy fire on the first floor, with M/A setting up a tanker relay. The house is a 2.5 story farm house, with a apartment off the back. Crews worked the fire as it was running the voids. Do to limited manpower FAST was put to work and a 2nd FAST was requested with additional manpower from several departments. The fire was contained in about 45 mins but crew worked hot spots for awhile. At this time no injuries have been reported, The FMO is investigating.

Boston Fire Boat, Visits Mystic Ct. 09-16-11

This afternoon the New Boston Fire Boat, stopped by Mystic Ct. on its way from Metalcraft Marine Inc. located in Kingston, Ontario to Its new home in Boston Harbor. The stop over was for lunch and to pick up the Boston Fire Commissioner, Roderick Fraser. He is traveling the final distance with the Metalcraft crew and a few crew members from Marine 1. The Boat should arrive around 8pm tonight in Boston. Thanks goes to the Boston Fire Commissioner and the firefighters, Metalcraft Marine for being great host and allow us to tour your Boat and A/C Manfredi for the notification.

The City of Boston is purchasing a new state of the art fireboat with Chemical, Biological and Radiological emergency response capability for the Boston Fire Department. This new vessel will replace the current fireboat “FIREFIGHTER” which has been in service since 1972 and does not have the capabilities needed for a modern emergency response fireboat. “Purchasing a new fireboat will greatly enhance public safety in the City and in Boston Harbor and I commend Commissioner Fraser and his staff for their hard work on this issue,” stated Mayor Thomas M Menino.

The new fireboat will be a high speed aluminum vessel with a maximum speed of 35 knots (approximately 40 MPH) and will be capable of pumping 12,000 gallons of water per minute. “The new fireboat will be more than twice as fast as FIREFIGHTER and will be able to pump twice as much water,” says Commissioner Roderick Fraser, “it will also have state of the art navigation systems as well as water jet propulsion and is designed to operate in a chemical or biological contaminated environment. This boat is light years ahead of the current fireboat and will greatly enhance our response capability anywhere in Boston Harbor.”

The new fireboat will be 69 feet long, and will be built by Metalcraft Marine, Inc. of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Metalcraft Marine specializes in designing and building high speed custom aluminum work boats. It has recently built fireboats for Seattle WA, Tampa, FL, Miami, FL, Jacksonville, FL and the State of Rhode Island. The City received two grants from the Department of Homeland Security for $2 million towards the construction of this vessel with the remaining $2.2 million funded by the city through the Fire Department’s capital plan.

The vessel will be named “John S. Damrell” after the former Chief Engineer of the Boston Fire Department who battled Boston’s Great Fire of 1872 and who later became Boston’s first Inspector of Buildings during the 1880’s. Damrell was instrumental in bringing great improvements to the fire service as well as being instrumental in creating modern building codes at the national level. The City expects to take delivery of this vessel in August of 2011. (September)

Taftville Fire Responded to 114 Providence St. for a reported fire on the porch. Car 2 found fire consuming the porch and entering one apartment. One occupant escaped after hearing yelling outside. Fire due engine arrived a knocked down the main body of fire on the outside. As the truck and M/A arrived other lines were placed in service and searches were conducted and Tower 25 vented the roof. Willimantic Fire responded to 25 Vermont Dr for a reported apartment fire with Numerous calls for a working house fire. Station K "striking the box" adding UConn for RIT. Car 101 and Eng 101 arrived to fine working fire in a 40 x 60 2 stry wd, heavy fire 1st floor . Car 101 requested a 2nd Alarm. The first floor apartment sustained heavy damage, The fire is under investigation by the FMO.

Mansfield Fire along with Ashford for an Engine, UConn, and Willimantic Engine 301 for RIT. They responded to 556 Wormwood Hill RD., for a garage fire. Some of the roads had trees still down from the recent storm. Crews encountered heavy fire conditions upon arrival. NFI. The fire is under investigation.

City of Groton dispatched to 220 Meridian St for a kitchen fire, First due reporting heavy smoke from the building, upgrading it to a working fire. A first alarm was dispatched. Fire was showing from the rear of the building, G-11 (engine) layed up a privet drive too the top of a hill, as M/A arrived and helped with fire attack. Crews stretched hand-lines further up the hill to the rear of the house to gain access to the fire. Crews made quick knock down of the main body of fire and overhauled the building for about a hour. The fire is under investigation.

Montville and Mohegan fire dispatched for a fire at The Nook Restaurant, 311 Norwich-New London Turnpike (Route 32), Initially dispatch of a possible fire on the roof. Fire due found smoke coming from the building. A working fire was declared by M-13. Crews found the fire in the roof area above the kitchen. During this time a General tone for all departments in Montville was dispatched, E-52 and A Quaker hill engine was added. Mohegan Tribal (FAST) was placed to work and Subase C-21 was added as 2nd Due FAST. After about a hour the fire was placed under control. Heavy damage was contained to the roof area. The fire is under Investigation.

Taftville Fire Responded to this car fire on Norwich Ave, This is one of the three incidents they responded to in a extremely short time, First they were requested to aid Occum with a MVA, As Occum was responding a fully involved car was noticed at Occum package store. As Occum and Taftville work the two incidents Norwich Fire transmitted the call for a car fire further down the road. When they arrived the Passenger compartment was involved.

Around 10:20 Norwich fire was dispatched to 145 Rockwell St. for a reported apartment fire. First due reported light smoke showing, Then found heavy fire to the rear on two floors. T-1 laddered the building using ground ladders do to power lines in the front of the building, T-1 was working the roof as condition deteriorated and were ordered off the roof by command, The engines worked both floors and attic. During this time a 2nd was requested by Car-1. Taftville T-25 , E-21 & Yantic E-33. Command ordered all companies out of the building for defensive operations. T-1 Set up for pipe operations. HT-6 was requested for additional supply lines. Once the heavy fire was knocked down crews re-entered the building to locate and overhaul the pockets of fire. The FM Task Force is investigating.

On arrival of Car-59 a report of a working fire with heavy brush surrounding a two story vacant home. In short time a 2nd Alarm was requested, M/A from several departments responded. Heavy smoke conditions from the 2nd floor and fire showing from a rear window. Crews attempted to advance into the dwelling but encountered Colliers Mansion conditions with in. With condition deteriorating operations went defensive. The fire was under control in a few hours. Norwich FMO and PD are investigating.

While returning from the Occum fire Car-3 noticed smoke coming from a roof of the NPW's Salt shed at that time he notified Norwich Fire to dispatch Yantic and Ladder 55 from EGPFD for a active fire on the roof of the building. Crews operated off L-55 for awhile until all hot spots were removed. The fire is under investigation by NFO.

Colchester fire responded to 356 Windham Rd, for a house fire at 02:34. Crews found a 1.5 story house with heavily involved with fire and several injured occupants one with 60% burns to his body. The house was set back off the road with limited water supply and tankers were requested. The burn victim was transported via Life star to a burn center.

The writer of these pages is blunt but tells a story of two locations NLFD and PGFD. Some will like the stories others may hate them I have only read a few chapters, But tells the events in detail. It's 15 chapters long. Surprisingly it has not showed up before. Its been around for a few years. www.pipenozzle.com is the site. Below is a section of one chapter.

As they approached the final right turn from Pequot onto Neptune Avenue that led across Ocean Avenue and down a short hill past rooming houses to the Ocean Beach Park entrance, Dembeck nudged the rookie and they all saw it at the same time. No one spoke. They didn’t need to. It was that sudden, as if the sun had popped up three hours early. They hung onto the back with one hand and with the other began to buckle their coats, check the straps on their helmets, get their gloves on. Still nobody spoke and everybody listened on that last turn to that unmistakable rumble of a fully involved structure fire, the kind that start in the middle of the night when no one is on the street to see the flicker of flame in the basement when a wire sparks where old insulation that should have been replaced years before finally wears completely through to the bare wire. Or maybe it was a leak in the oil furnace tank in the basement or maybe somebody smoked a joint in the basement and dropped a hot butt and at that moment it didn’t really matter. Whatever it was, and the fire marshal would try to make a determination after it was all over, whatever started it waited until everyone was asleep and built up enough heat to blow out basement windows, and boom, the flashover, and up through the floor, up outside the basement to light up the front porch, and then, with plenty of fresh air to breath, it rolled up over the porch roof, heated up the old glass in the second floor living room, blew out the glass, and entered unannounced and took over inside and outside.

The fire was having a fine time burning tons of the best fuel old New England rooming houses had to offer—wood, wood, and more dried out old wood. Plaster and lath walls with wood, wooden floors varnished again and again and again, clapboard siding, open interior wood stairs, curtains, overstuffed chairs, newspapers, and carpets. Oh my. The whole block was lit up and the conflagration produced enough heat as it soared over the peaked roof, melted asphalt shingles, and burned overhanging tree branches to ignite the Oldsmobile parked across the front lawn on the curb. Convection at work. The house was cooking that Oldsmobile without touching it with one bit of flame. You could have stood across the street and roasted a marshmallow.

And this is the point in the story where the narrator says, "And then their training kicked in." The lieutenant ordered Dembeck to take one man and start a search of the building from the back that wasn't burning yet to the front, and then the lieutenant ordered Wegel to drive the Seagrave down the hill, make a T turn, run back up the hill, then cross the street to stop in front of the hydrant a hundred feet past the house on the same side of the street. Perfect position to connect the soft suction to the four and a half port on the hydrant, and then the lieutenant, who called in the second alarm on the way back up the hill, could work with the rookie and the paid man to get a two and a half line on the fire. That was the first duty of a pumper crew to get water on the fire. When the first due truck crew arrived to take over the search, Dembeck and his backup would retreat outside to start another line.

At 18:30, Montville and Oakdale were dispatched to a report of a garage fire. Shortly after signing on, it was a confirmed working garage fire with attached house. Quick attack on the inside of the house stopped the progress of the fire in the attic confining the fire to the garage. Tribe for fast team and Salem, Gardner Lake and EGP Tankers were called for water supply and coverage.

Moosup 2nd alarm 04-21-11

Around 08:45 Moosup fire responded to 39 Daggett St. for several report's of a building fire. First due arrived found heavy on the 3rd floor. At that time a 2nd alarm was requested. Crews work several room and large void space's in the front of this Victorian. Mossup's ladder 194, vented the "A" side of the building as Plainfield's tower 195 worked the "A-B" corner as Danielson's Tower worked the "D" Side venting and overhauling the outside of the 3rd floor. Engine and trucks worked the 3rd floor with extensive overhaul. Several pets were located and removed from the building as crews placed salvage covers on the lower floors. They worked the floor for over and hour to located all hidden pockets of fire. The fire is under investigation.

Lisbon fire was dispatched to 25 Kimball Height's RD for a chimney fire with extensions. QV received more report's and one from CSP of heavy fire from the roof. First due officer reported heavy fire and requested additional M/A and tankers. Fire took hold of the 2nd and first floor as water supply was established with drop tanks and a Tanker shuttle. Crews worked the home for several hours to extinguish the fire. The fire is under investigation.

Taftville W/F w/extra Engine 04-18-11

Around 18:30 Taftville Fire along with Occum and FAST from Yantic was dispatched to 20 Hunters Ave for a apartment building on fire. First due found smoke showing from the rear of a 3 story OMD. They located the fire in a 1 story section to the rear, with extension to the rear wall of the 3 story section. Command added a 2nd engine from Yantic. Taftville knocked down the fire in the one story section as Yantic and Occum worked to control the extension in the apartment's. Heavy damage was confined to the one story section that once was an attached store.

We got a late start to this fire, the main body of fire was knocked down when we arrived the two exposure buildings only minor damage.

Around Dusk Detroit fire Notified companies of a Box Alarm at1511 Holden near Trumball. Companies found heavy fire to the rear of the 2.5 story Vacant dwelling. The first line was deployed to the rear as the front doors were forced and a interior attack was established. Winds were about 10-15 which aided to the fire growth. At one point an engine crew operating on the 2nd floor was cut off from the front door, until the fire was knocked down. Exposure lines were placed in operation, command gave the order to go defensive, at that time tower 7 was placed in service.

Taftville 2nd Alarm w/Mayday 04-15-11

Around 04:00 Taftville fire was dispatched to 24 Harland PL for a house fire with occupants trapped. Taftville fire requested Full assignment from Yantic with Tribal FAST. First arriving fire officer reported a working fire, with minutes all occupants were accounted for (reportedly escaped from a 2nd floor window). Crews worked the first floor to knockdown the fire, As several firefighters accessed the 2nd floor for search and knockdown the main body of fire. During this time a firefighters leg broke threw the floor and he could not get out. A 2nd firefighter was trying to assist him, he too broke threw the floor and got entangled in wires in the first floor ceiling. The other firefighters can to their aid. As a Mayday was transmitted, Tribal FAST made their way to the 2nd floor area to free the two firefighters, one was placed in the bucket of the tower the 2nd was walked down the stairs. During this time a 2nd FAST was requested from Bozrah FD. Command shifted operations to a defensive mode until the fire was under control. The firefighter were evaluated and released. Norwich FMO is investigating the fire.

Scotland Fire w/MA dispatched to 23 Decker Hill Rd for a Barn fire. The first in firefighter reported that the "HOUSE" was going end to end, not the barn. Heavy fire consumed the home and the building collapsed on the "A,B & C" corner with minutes of arrival. A indoor pool to the rear slowed crews operating to the rear addition do to safety concerns. Tanker were called in and used until several draft sites were in operation. The fire was under control in about 1.5 hours, Local and state FMO's are investigating the cause.

Detroit MI, Still Alarm 04-02-11

Detroit Fire transmitted a Still Alarm for 4846 Tarnow for a Garage fire, We were about 3 mile's down the road and decided to take it in. We found a one car garage with heavy smoke coming from the building. Engine 34 was first to arrive and pull their Bundle load and lay out to the hydrant. A ladder company pulled a red line from the opposite street. The fire was contained to the garage.

Lisbon Brush fire 04-10-11

Mid afternoon, Lisbon Fire was called to the area of Rt-169 and Rt-12 for a brush fire. This is a large, dense forest area with tight limited access roads. The total acreage burnt I am unsure of, I never saw the whole area and I heard reports of 4 acres to 15 acres from someone in the CMD structure. I would guess there was at least 70 acres in this area. All manpower has to be brought in by pick-up or ATV as accessing the fire was a mile and half away from any road..

Most of the transportation vehicles either stalled going up the steep hills or the UTV's would run out of gas to get to the fire. Water supply was portable pumps drafting from various locations within the woods (ie swamps,streams) alot of dead trees and brush made for a large fire load. the wind didn't help things either. a few high tension power poles were damaged during the fire. The fire got deep seated in the trees and roots, the scene was turned over to DEP around 19:00hrs

New London fire transmitted a working fire for a 2.5 wood frame, They encountered heavy fire condition at the front door with fire on the first and 2nd floor. Battalion 1 requested C-21 for FAST as all New London companies operated this fire. NLFD brought this fire under control in about 30min. Detroit Fire, Dispatch units from Battalion 6 to the area of Barker & Cadillac for a dwelling fire, fire due company's found heavy fire conditions and Dumped the monitor into a vacant dwelling, with out putting a dent in the flames. Heavy fire took hold of the holed of the dwelling. The fire was allowed to burn until the light pole burst into flames and the build next door stated to smoke. in about 20 mins the dwelling ended up on the ground.

Detroit Fire transmitted the Box on this home, first due found heavy fire conditions one the front of the building. Fire due engine dumped their monitor to knockdown the heavy fire. Crews had all the spot fires in-check in a short time. One lady stated she was watching TV and the whole front of the house went up in flames in seconds. I do not know if it was her house or not. Several fire bombing were accruing around the city in a short time.

Engine 41 transmitted, stretching on the dwelling. One of Detroit's size up for a working fire. The Battalion updated with two Dwellings going asking for a 4th due engine for RIT. Crew went to work on both dwelling at the same time one had minor extension as the other has two floors of fire. In about 30 mins both dwelling were under control.

Over the next week I will be posting 11 incidents, During the 4 nights and 5 days over 30+ fires occurred in one of the largest city's in the USA. We managed to film 11 of the incidents, others were out before arrival or were out of our coverage area. The Detroit firefighters operate under extreme conditions with very limited resources and do one hell of a job. I hope to give them justice with my coverage. This was my 2nd trip a little slower then the last, but DFD members tell us thing have not begun to get crazy "YET" for this year, but the weather is changing. For the Detroit firefighters, Stay safe in this years battle.

A matching pair of ornate hand lanterns were recently stolen from their storage box at the Fire Museum in Manchester, CT. The lanterns are two of seven belonging to an ornate parade hose cart.These lanterns date back to a parade wagon purchased in 1882 by Crescent Hose Company #2. The parade wagon is currently on loan to the Connecticut Fireman's Historical Society.The Manchester Police Department has several leads, but are still investigating. Around 01:25 Willimantic Police officer reported working fire at Babcock Court off Spring St. ENG 301, Capt requesting UConn RIT, Mansfield Amb while enroute 2nd alarm struck at 0129 bringing in all WMTC off duty and South Windham cascade to the scene, South Windham engine to cover HQ and North Windham stand by in their Qtrs. Crews stretched two lines and vented the roof. They found fire in the B/C corner of the first floor with extension to second floor. Quick knockdown by Platoon 1
