I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Taftville 3rd Alarm 12-11-21

Around 11pm, Norwich fire dispatched Taftville to 150 Norwich Ave for several calls reporting a building fire with occupant on the porch. Crew arrived to find smoke coming from the 1st floor of a 3 story wood frame OMD.  Crews found fire in the basement apartment, with extension to the upper floors. Crews search and found fire running the wall area above the fire. The fire was under control in about a hr. One occupant was transported for evaluation. The fire was investigated by Norwich Fire Marshal's.

Norwich W/F 12-11-21

 Around 5am Norwich was dispatched to 74 Orchard St, for a garage fire. First arriving found heavy fire from a detached garage with extension to the dwelling. As crews worked the garage and protected the exposure, the garage collapsed. Crews kept the exposure fire to the outside of the dwelling.

The fire is under investigation



 

Norwich W/F, Commercial building 12-09-21

 Norwich was dispatched to 150 Franklin St for a tow truck on fire with extension to the building around 19:30, Battalion 1 arrived to fire smoke coming from the 2 bays of a 4 bay garage. Crew knocked down the fire in a few minutes, 2 extra Engines responded to the scene. 

The fire is under investigation

Yantic Fire Engine Company #1, 1891Silsby Steamer

 Yantic Fire Engine Company #1, 1891 Silsby Steamer. Returned home after close to 3 years of a complete restoration, at Firefly restoration in Maine. The department food based fundraisers for the last several years and the next few have been the driving force to restore the steamer, which was the 3 piece of fire apparatus the department owned. You can see the steamer on the Discovery + app under the Magnolia channel show the American #3 the Fireman.

Salem, W/F 02-04-21

 Salem & Gardner Lake fire with M/A responded to 41 Carvalho Dr, for a reported house fire, Crews found light smoke showing from the eaves and AC unit. First due engine stretched in the front door on this raised ranch style home, and found a active fire in the kitchen. The engine made a quick knockdown after making entry, the crews then checked for extension. The fire is under investigation.

Lisbon Barn Fire, 2nd Alarm 01-29-21

 QV dispatched Lisbon and M/A to 10 Ross Hill RD, for a reported building fire.  First due reported the building 50% involved, Due to limited water supply 3 additional tankers was requested. One crew was assigned to a Draft site near the property, The Temp was about 19 with a 15-20 MPH winds. Crews stretched several landlines and a blitz fire. Due to conditions upon arrival, a defensive operation was ordered. The FMO is investigating.
