First In






I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Bozrah Ct, W/F 01-30-23

 Bozrah fire and M/A was dispatched at 14:15 to 21 Stanton RD for a dwelling fire, Et-126 and car 126 arrived to find an 2 story dwelling with fire showing on the "B" side wood chimney 1st floor to roof line. Et-126 stretched a 1.75 inch handline and knocked the main body of fire down then stretched in to check for extension, which none was found. Crews from Yantic and Colchester assisted in searching and overhauling while other crews set up water supply. The fire was under control in a few minutes.

Laurel Hill, W/F Vacant. 1-29-23

 Norwich fire Dispatched Laurel Hill and Norwich FDs to the area of the former state hospital for a possible building fire. After searching the 300 acre land mass, they found a vacant 2 store dwelling on the back side of the hill, well involved. With limited access and the building collapsing they took a controlled burn posture. NFI at this time.

Bozrah 3rd Alarm, Commecial Barn fire. 01-28-23

 Around 1:pm 1-28-23, Bozrah Fire Department and heavy M/A responded to Schwarts Rd for a commercial building fire. These are condition on Arrival, of a 400ft long barn.

Taftville Ct, 1st Alarm. 01-12-23


Taftville Ct, 12 Prentice Street, around 19:20 the original call was for a motorcycle explosion, to the rear,  possible structure fire. PD arrived and gave fully involved, Car 2 then arrived to find fire showing from one room and the rear of the dwelling. Eng 21 then arrived and stretched in and began fire attack. The main body of fire was knocked down in a short time. Moderate fire damage to the dwelling. NFI at this time.

Taftville Ct, 2nd Alarm 01-04-23

Taftville Ct, 2nd Alarm, With Bail out. January 4, 2023

    Around 20:00 Norwich fire Dispatched Taftville fire and M/A Engine 2 and Truck 1 and the Battalion to 112 Norwich Ave for reported fire in the window. Engine 2 arrived to fire showing from the D side of the dwelling, followed by Et-21, Tower 25 and Tower 1.

Engine 2 (reserve engine) as the crew stretched in, the pump failed. At the time Engine 21 was arriving and changed to first due operations, The original hand line was relocated to E-21s pump. During this time, Tower 25 and Truck 1 arrived.

Car 2 while en-route requested the 2nd alarm, which added Yantic Engine 33, Rescue 3, Occum Engine 41 &42 and Mohegan Tribe as FAST.

As Engine 33 arrived conditions were deteriorating, the driver of eng-33 laid-out from tower 1 up the road to the hydrant. The crew was staged along with Rescue 3s crew.

Several hand-lines had been stretched into the building, over the next few minutes conditions continued to worsen. The first in crew had just exited the building, as a mayday was heard by some of the fire ground crews, but not all. Command was able to make contact, with the firefighter Eng-2. FAST was activated and was heading to the front door to make access to the 2nd floor, at that time the firefighter from Engine 2 was noticed on the B side 2nd floor middle windows, breaking out the glass, by Car 38. He directed Rescue 3s crew to grab the ladders from the ground and place them to the window. As they secured the first ladder, the firefighter started his bailout. He was able to do and head first bail, and flip around. He bailed with no injuries, and after medial cleared him on scene, he returned to his crew. In all training, was the key to a successful rescue.

During this, Fire vented from the roof then a few minutes later rear of the building. Command had evacuated the building and the fire went defensive. This incident is under review, as the cause is under investigation. A fuller report can be found online @ NorthEast Squad Concepts.
