First In

I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.

As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Hartford 2nd Alarm 06-13-08

Hartford, Ct. 2nd alarm was transmitted around 1400 hrs. at 400 Washington St. The Institute of Living. For those not familiar with this facility it is surrounded by a brick/fence wall with security gates because it is a psych hospital. The fire I am told started in the basement and traveled up. The roof was slate. It was a 2 story bldg.
With this fire the city was down to 1 engine and 1 ladder to cover the whole city. They had company's in Colchester, Ct at least a 30 minute drive for a fire in a junk yard.

Colchester Multi alarm. 06-13-08

COLCHESTER, CT - Around 10:30 a.m. on June 13, 2008 A explosion and fire rocked M&J Salvage on Rt-85 in Colchester. This started one of the biggest movements of fire apparatus in recent years. The following plans were placed into use, strike teams, foam trailers and an incident management team.

The strike teams brought companies together that had never worked together before (Hartford, New London,Windhan and Toland
Counties ).

The scrapyard was full of hundreds of autos and thousands of tires were ablaze with in minutes of the explosion. Several workers were taken to area hospitals, one with burns. Fire crews had difficulties extinguishing the fire as water had to be shuttled from several miles away until a line was laid over a mile to a local pond and several foam trailers were placed into service.

After about five hours the main body of the fire was knocked down and crews with heavy equipment added firefighters with the overhaul. The fire is under investigation by local and State FMO's office.

I will be posting more photos laterThis photo is about two years old, The fire area was a lot more congested today About 10 mins into the fireOne of the worker's being transported By CHFD-EMS
