First In






I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Manchester 3rd Alarm 04-19-08

At 15:25 Manchester fire responded to 90 Walnut St, This was dispatched as W/F with people trapped. On arrival a 3rd alarm was transmitted. (It turned out no one was home). As first in crews made entry, the hose line burst, and a back up had to be stretched. As the truck was opening up the roof on side "A", they opened up the vent hole the sections fell into the hole and fire started to blow out this cut off one LT., and he could not make it back to the aerial. In-turn he made his was to the safest location on the back side of the building and awaited rescue. Crews repositioned the aerial to safely remove him from the roof.

Yantic 2nd Pin job of the day. 04-16-08

Around 16:00 Yantic fire responded to a reported MVA with entrapment on North Wawecus Hill RD. A car with three occupants lost control and hit a telephone pole and snapping it. One occupant was out on arrival (reported he was ejected), with two more still trapped in the car. Crews worked to free both occupants. They removed the roof, cut the drivers seat and spread the seats to free the rear passengers feet. All three were transported to Backus by American. Later one occupant was transferred by Life star to Hartford.







Jewett City, Commercial BLDG W/F. 04-16-08

Jewett City fire responded to Triangle Wire and Cable factory, a commercial building with fire coming from the roof. The first in officer reported a working fire and requested M/A from several departments. JCFD firefighters forced entry and located the fire in the roof area. The fire was knocked down with min's. Tower 25s crew was sent to the roof to open up the fire area. units were on scene for about two hours. M/A departments was from Occum, Taftville, Lisbon, Plainfield and Voluntown.



Occum, 395 NB Pin Job. 04-16-08

Around 10:40 Occum and Yantic responded to 395 NB for a one car rollover with entrapment. Crews used the Rescue Jacks to stabilize the car and removed the roof. The occupant was transported to Backus by American.

Number of hits at one time.

Well for some reason I checked my site and noticed that at one time I had 45 visitors tonight! Thanks for stopping by. RDL Below is some of the locations around the world that view you at work.

Hartford W/F 04-14-08

Around 12:30 Hartford fire responded to house fire at 122 Montowese St. The first due "engine 10" made a quick knock down of the fire. Photos by Patrick Dooley





Yantic, water front Property fire. 04-14-08

Around 19:30 Yantic responded for a reported Tent fire along the banks of the Yantic River. Crews hiked in about 800' to find a homeless shanty town with one tent like structure consumed and about a 30x30 area of brush burning. Crews handled the fire with pump can's and brooms. The occupant could not be found for comment.

Norwich W/F 04-14-08

Around 17:35, Norwich fire responded to 34 Spaulding St. for an apartment fire on arrival Bat-1 reported smoke coming from the rear of the building. After investigating they found a small contents fire in the building a alley line was stretched and the fire was knocked down. Minor damage to the dwelling.

Chesterfield, Pin Job 04-13-08

Around 18:25 Chesterfield responded to Route 85 MVA with injuries. M-3 reported one car into a tree with two occupants with entrapment and serious injuries. He requested two medics and Life star. Route 85 was shut down for s short time.

Franklin Payloader incident 04-08

Franklin Fire Dept was notified by phone at station 25 of a loader roll over down a 20' embankment car 25 went to check and found a large front end loader had indeed gone over a 20' embankment no one was in the machine due to the fact that if had happened on Thursday PM. DEP was call and R-125 due to the fact that the fuel line had broke. About 5-10 gallons of fuel had been on board and about five leaked out. The fire department was on scene for about 1 hour. DEP remained on scene for Haz-Mat cleanup


Franklin MVA, 04-10-08

On April 10 2008 at 01:30 the Franklin Fire Department respond to a one car accident with minor injury's upon arrival car 25 found a new jeep had rolled over in to a ditch with the driver standing along side of it. The driver reported their where 3 people in the jeep with her it was found to be her and another female that had gone home. The driver refused and the passager was found at home and check by EMS personal and also refused treatment. Franklin was on scene for 2.5 hours with the state police. Photo and Info provided by Car-25
