I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Putnam Mill Fire 08-31-07

Putnam Fire was dispatched area of Mechanics St for a mill fire around 20:30 a fire consumed a 2-3 story section of the mill. The fire that devastated a vacant mill off Mechanics Street Friday night was the work of an arsonist. "The fire was already burning through the roof when the first apparatus reached the scene the departments set up for defencive operations and called for several MA departments. Putnam Fire Marshal Normand Perron said Saturday night fire investigators found several points of origin for the massive blaze inside what was is known locally as the Putnam Foundry, an old, dilapidated mill building that had been vacant for about five years.

North Stonington, Commercial buildng 08-27-07

North Stonington Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a building at about 5:30pm on August 27, 2007. Shortly after being dispatched they started receiving numerous calls reporting a working fire. Upon arrival they found 100 foot by 75 foot vacant commercial building with heavy smoke showing from all sides of the building. A First alarm was struck for tankers and a F.A.S.T. from Old Mystic Fire was called to the scene. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and search was negative.

The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes.

Salem, Van rollover 08-21-07

Salem and Gardner Lake responded to a mva roll over on RTE 85 between Sullivan Road and the Colchester town line. The driver wiped out a couple mailboxes in the southbound lane and crossed the road, landing on it's roof on the northbound side. The driver was transported to Backus Hospital by Gardner Lake's ambulance with an AASI medic on board on a modified trauma alert.

Norwich, fully involved mini-golf 08-18-07

Saturday night around 11:30 Norwich fire along with Laural Hill was dispatched to a fire near Laural Hill section of the city. As Norwich units opened the doors they knew it was near the marina, As the arrived they found a large building on the mini-golf course fully involved. Crews operated from the street level and streached in from Brown Park. They used deck gun, ladder pipe, and 2.5 handlines to knock down the fire. The fire is under investigation.


Voluntown W/F 08-18.07

Sunday night Voluntown Fire was dispatched to a 1 story OD for a building fire, on arrival they found heavy smoke showing from the attic area. Several MA companies and tankers were called in. The fire was under control in about a hour.

Subase Car fire 08-14-07

At shift change on Tuesday the Submarine Base Fire Department responded to a reported engine compartment fire. On arrival the found heavy grey smoke pushing from under the hood. E-11 & E-12 responded. Eng 11 arriving

Preston, W/F at Old State Hospital 08-11-07

Around 23:50, Preston Fire (Poquetanuck & Preston city fire departments) responded to Norwich State Hospital for a fire on the 2nd floor of a large vacant building. Firefighters laddered the building to gain primary entrance and hose placement. Crews also forced entry to several other entrances. The made a quick knockdown of the main body of fire, and overhauled the area.
The fire is under investigation.

Jewett City 3+alarms 86 Rt-12 08-11-07

Jewett City, Responded for a reported fire outside the building at 86 North Main St (RT-12). While enrout QV receved calls reporting the building involved. First in companies found fire racing up the outer wall into the attic and 2nd floor on the "B" side of the building. A 2nd then a 3rd alarm with special calls, for man-power due to the heat and fire conditions.

Willamantic W/F Mayo St 08-09-07

Willamantic Fire responded to Mayo St. for a house fire, A 2nd alarm was struck due to the ambulance being out on a call. The crew of Engine 2 found fire on the 2nd floor and knocked it down. UCONN responded as FAST. Colombia and Mansfield responded Ambulances to the fire. On firefighter
provided O2 for two kittens.
