I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Norwich W/F 06-27-09

Around 8:20am Norwich Fire dispatched Eng.2,3, the Squad, Truck 1, & Bat.1 to 646 Boswell Ave., the Seafood Etc. store for a building fire, reported via radio by M-19-3. The Battalion Chief was advised that numerous "calls" were being received, and shortly after Eng.2 reported a working fire with heavy smoke showing from the eaves and roof line. Mohegan F.A.S.T. was started and lines were laid. An interior attack was started with a 2 1/2", and ventilation was in progress. After about a 1/2 hour chase via the interior ceiling and exterior cornice work the bulk of the overhead fire was knocked down, and a lengthy overhaul was started. E.G.P. , Yantic, and Laurel Hill were placed on standby and help at the scene was given by Taftville. A Co. of standby firefighters was latter requested to assist with mop-up, the fire remained under investigation.

Putnam W/F 06-18-09

Around 2:pm Putnam was dispatched for a building fire, on arrival of the PD a report of a fully involved building was transmitted. (never believe a report from the PD) LOL. The fire department found a duplex with smoke coming from the roof line and first floor. Crews made entry and found a kitchen fire. As the OVM vent the building they made a quick knockdown. The fire in under investigation.

Hartford 2nd Alarm 06-14-09

Hartford fire responded to 1908 Broad St.at 12:35hrs. Call was for smoke in the area with a second report giving the address. Ladder 2 arrived reporting a W/F with fire blowing out the rear of the building. At least on 2.5 was placed in service to the rear of the building too knock down the fire on the porches. NFI

Noank Boat Fire 06-12-09

Noank fire responded to a private dock off of Spring St., for a boat fire. The boat was a lobster boat. Most of the damage was contained to the bridge area. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Yantic 395 Rollover 06-11-09

Late in the day Yantic responded to Rt-395 NB between Exit 81E-81W for a tractor trailer rollover into a 2nd tractor trailer. On arrival one fully loaded truck was across the highway. The 2nd was parked about 300' down the road with a damaged box. No major injuries, the loads were non-hazardous. After several hours the road was opened back up.

June School CFA 2009

This week was the Connecticut's annual week long June Fire School. I attended several Engine Company Operations classes. During my down time, I took some shots. The classes have improved greatly in the last few years. I recommend that you attend next year.

Taftville 3rd Alarm 06-05-09

Info to follow Around 22:00hrs Taftville Fire responded to 15 Hunters Ave. for a report of a smoke detector activation with a smell of smoke. As the first due officer arrived he found heavy smoke coming from the #2 floor calling for 2nd alarm with extra engines. The some of the occupants were still in the apartments. He evacuated the building as the first due engine arrive conditions change drastically (see photo below). At that time Command requested tower 1. The engine crew pulled a 2.5 and knocked down the porch area, then crews entered the rear of the building for fire attack on 2 floors of the 6 unit building, as T25 and other lines were placed to exposure protection do to some melting and burning on both buildings. Exposures were about 10-15 ft at the roof lines. As the fire was taking hold of the front section of 4 apartments and the cock loft, Command evacuated the building. The now defensive operations and great tower work and deck guns the fire was knocked down in a short time. The fire is under investigation.Photo by S, Dupuis

New Britain, 2nd Alarm 06-01-09

At 1500 New Britain fire responded to 705 East St. this fire reached a 2nd alarm. The fire tookhold of the 3rd floor and attic area. More pictures at. http://squadfirephotos.smugmug.com

Hartford, TT rollover w/fire 06-01-09

Hartford fire responded to I-91 SB At exit 29a for a truck rollover with fire. Passersby pulled the driver from the burning cab before fire department arrive, (I have been told that 2 New Haven, Ct firefighters who were passing by stopped to help get the driver out.) He had serious burn injuries and was flown to Bridgeport Hosp to the burn unit.The truck was full of wast and was burning along with the cab. Firefighters used handlines and a tower to extinguish the fire. Patrick was able to get the shots by parking in the parking garage of the Ct. convention center. Yantic, Smoke in the building 05-31-09

Yantic fire responded to 204 Sturtevant St. Aztec Sun Tanning, for smoke in the building. On arrival a light haze was found the quickly dissipated. The building was searched and source was locate. The cause was not a fire.
