First In






I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Moosup 2nd Alarm+ 03-31-14

Moosup Fire was dispatched around 09:50 to 20 Aldrich Ave for a house fire, First due found a 2.5 story duplex with heavy fire from the front of the building. Crews made knocked down the first floor but the fire gained control of the void spaces and attic, with a good wind condition they were pushed back and and exterior operations were ordered. During this time 2nd Alarm companies were requested. Mutual aid from Plainfield, Central Village, Atwood Hose,Sterling, Oneco (Sterling) Danielson FAST responded. Crews worked the fire for several hrs to bring it under control. The fire is under investigation.

Colchester 2nd Alarm+ 03-29-14

Colchester fire was dispatched for a reported fire in the area of Linwood Cemetery Rd at Wall St.. they found heavy fire on the 2nd floor of a large vacant building at 5 Levy RD. (Lincoln lake lodge) A now closed resort. Command requested a 2nd alarm and Tankers. The building was a Do not enter and  defensive operations were ordered. The fire was under control in about a hr. NFI at this time.

Colchester W/F 03-28-14

Just before Noon, Colchester Fire was Dispatched to 8 Colchester Commons for a possible house fire with people trapped. First due reported Heavy fire from the "B" Side with a garage involved extending in the building. Command added several tankers for water supply and a Fast team. Crews knocked down the main body of fire then focused on the spot fires. I have no info of occupants except the home was clear. The fire is under investigation.

South Coventry W/F 3/20/14

 About 1240 hours South Coventry fire members arrived at 88 Prospect St to heavy fire showing from the front and rear of a 2 1/2 story wood frame. The house was at the dead end of the street which made apparatus access limited. Mutual aid from North Coventry, Uconn, Mansfield, Tolland, Columbia, Andover, Bolton and many others assisted at the scene or covered stations in Tolland County.



 

Noank (Groton) W/F 03-21-14

Fire Departments from Stonington and Groton areas responded via boats to Ram Island for smoke coming from the house around 15:30. Before arrival Heavy fire was visible from the shore. Several boats from several departments responded with firefighters and equipment, Mystic marine 1 was the largest and can pump 2000 gpm, Do to the long response and the channel by the time of arrival the fire was well ahead of them, Crews worked to try to stop the fire but were not able. the home was a total loss. The FM is investigation the cause.

Plainville W/F+ 03/10/14

Plainville fire responded to 29 Carol Rd. for a reported house fire. The FM arrived and reported heavy fire from the basement, at 9:35 split-level single family dwelling . M/A was requested, crews work the fire and brought it under control. The FMO is investigating the cause.

8th District FD (Manchester, Ct) 2nd alarm+ 03-09-14

About 1500 hours the 8th District FD (Manchester, Ct) was dispatched to 39 Buckland St. for numerous calls reporting a structure fire in an apartment building. The 2nd alarm was struck as companies were still blocks away due to the smoke condition they drove through. Companies arrived to find fire venting out the rear of this 3 story (2 floors in front, 3 in the rear) wood frame apartment building with people evacuating. Mutual aid for another ladder company was requested on arrival. Once the tower ladder was put to work the fire was knocked down quickly. MFRE Truck 2, Engine 5, Car 22  and Vernon ET-241 assisted at the scene with other departments covering the stations.

Groton W/F Box plus, 03-01-14

Poquonnock Bridge fire and Subase E-62 was dispatched for a possible house fire a few buildings up from Crystal lake road at 09:10. N-62 Arrived at 694 Pleasant Valley Rd North, and found smoke showing and transmitted the working fire, at that time this brought in a Box plus assignment. A 1 3/4 line was stretched to the #2 floor, fire was found in the walls and burn though the ceiling on the 2nd floor. As other companies arrived, the placed a back-up line into the dwelling searched and vented the roof and windows. Crew did find two deceased pets. The fire was under control in about 15 mins. The FM is investigating the cause.
