First In






I welcome you to my blog site; I hope to show you the fire service in NLC in some interesting events. During the next few years, I will improve on the content and photos to keep you coming back for more. I take pride in my photography and try my best to be first in when possible. The majority of the photos will be from the Norwich companies & surrounding area departments, but sometimes I Buff out of state cities for a change of pace.



As of late I have missed or worked a lot of the incidents. I have a great support group of Photographers to help the site keep up with all the incidents. There are too many to list, So thanks for your support. Thanks for visiting and enjoy .RD Ladd

Middletown Explosion/fire 02-07-10

Middletown fire responded to River Rd at the Kleen power plant after a explosion rocked central CT. Crews found heavy fire conditions and most of the outer skin of the building blown off. Over 50 worker were in the building or on the property at the time of the explosion, 5 are known deceased. untold number have minor to serious injuries. Numerous M/A fire, EMS and PD from several town, Two FD Taskforces activated along with TF-CT1 (USAR team) the scene is still active at 20:00. The recovery and investigation is under way at this time.

East Thompson W/F 02-07-10

East Thompson (Thompson Hill) responded to 734 block Quaddick Pond Rd for a reported house fire, Units found heavy fire coming from the building with several building and cages as exposures. M/A was requested from several Ct, MA and RI departments

Two new apparatus have arrived in the last week. The Subase and East Great Plain Subase fire Department received a 2009 100' Pierce rear mount tower ladder, with a 2000gpm pumpEast Great Plain Fire Department, Just received a 2009 Supper vac Rescue truck

East Hartford, 02-05-10

East Hartford, Ct responded to 97 Mill Rd at 1550 hours for this working fire. Fire was on the #2 floor of a 2 1/2 story brick apartment building. Ladder 2 members found 1 occupant who was removed and transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Fire was quickly knocked down.

Yantic car fire 02-05-10

Yantic fire responded to Golds Gym for a fully involved car fire at 10:20. Car-3 found one car heavily involved with the fire extending to two others. The fire was contained to the three cars.

Baltic Ice Rescue Investgation 02-04-10

Baltic fire responded to the Shetucket river for a reported snow tube on the ice CSP on scene. Baltic requested M/A from Norwich Regional Dive team from Yantic & Taftville responded.
The dive team deployed a rescuer on a sled to investigate the area. After they investigated and interviewed residents it was found to on the ice for a few days.

Windsor Locks 2nd alarm 01-31-10

Windsor Locks fire responded to the end of Oates Ln., for this working fire. Mutual aid from Windsor and Warehouse Point FD's assisted at the scene. More pictures at http://squadfirephotos.smugmug.com

Hartford 2nd alarm (2nd fire of night) 01-31-10

Hartford fire responded to 60 Earl ST at 01:05. With heavy conditions on arrival and reports of people trapped and exposures very close to this 2 1/2 wood frame, the 2nd was struck quickly. All occupants were found to be safe. This was their second 2nd alarm fire of the night. More pictures on http://squadfirephotos.smugmug.com

Manchester pin job 01-27-10

Manchester Fire Rescue and EMS members responded to McDonald's at 144 Deming St at 1558 hrs for a MVA with a person trapped. The driver dropped money out of her vehicle at the drive thru and stopped the car to get it. The car was not put in park and when the vehicle started rolling forward she jumped back in to stop it as it crashed into the building trapping her partway into the car. The FD set up a chain/cable to the car then to the fire truck and pulled the vehicle away from the building. Extrication took about 30 minutes.

Hartford 2nd alarm 01-30-10

Hartford fire responded to 321 Jefferson St at 19:25 for this second alarm. Fire was in 3 brick with the fire running the walls up into the cockloft. Not much to see from the outside as companies were chasing the fire in the walls. Nice stop by members on a very cold night. Some more pictures on. http://squadfirephotos.smugmug.com

East Hartford W/F 01-27-10

East Hartford fire responded to 206 Greenwood Dr. at 15:15. Fire was in the rear of a ranch with Ladder 2 reporting heavy smoke showing on their arrival. Fire was knocked down is a short time.

Jewett City 1st alarm w/special calls 01-25-10

At 23:20 Jewett City fire, along with Lisbon and Griswold responded to 124 Main St (RT-12) for a building fire. On arrival they encountered Heavy fire showing from the front of the store section of a deceiving 3 story wood, mix use building. M/A was then request from Taftville. Parts of the building was about 100 years old with a large addition for apartments. Crews worked the fire for about 45mins until the fire took control of the building forcing Firefighters out. At this time command ordered everyone out and went defensive in the operations. Several Hose tenders were added to the incident for water supply. Crews worked the fire into the early morning hours. It has been reported that at least two firefighter received minor injuries. The Local and State FMO's are investigating.
