Detroit MI, Box Alarm 04-02-11

Around Dusk Detroit fire Notified companies of a Box Alarm at1511 Holden near Trumball. Companies found heavy fire to the rear of the 2.5 story Vacant dwelling. The first line was deployed to the rear as the front doors were forced and a interior attack was established. Winds were about 10-15 which aided to the fire growth. At one point an engine crew operating on the 2nd floor was cut off from the front door, until the fire was knocked down. Exposure lines were placed in operation, command gave the order to go defensive, at that time tower 7 was placed in service.

Taftville 2nd Alarm w/Mayday 04-15-11

Around 04:00 Taftville fire was dispatched to 24 Harland PL for a house fire with occupants trapped. Taftville fire requested Full assignment from Yantic with Tribal FAST. First arriving fire officer reported a working fire, with minutes all occupants were accounted for (reportedly escaped from a 2nd floor window). Crews worked the first floor to knockdown the fire, As several firefighters accessed the 2nd floor for search and knockdown the main body of fire. During this time a firefighters leg broke threw the floor and he could not get out. A 2nd firefighter was trying to assist him, he too broke threw the floor and got entangled in wires in the first floor ceiling. The other firefighters can to their aid. As a Mayday was transmitted, Tribal FAST made their way to the 2nd floor area to free the two firefighters, one was placed in the bucket of the tower the 2nd was walked down the stairs. During this time a 2nd FAST was requested from Bozrah FD. Command shifted operations to a defensive mode until the fire was under control. The firefighter were evaluated and released. Norwich FMO is investigating the fire.

Scotland W/F 04-13-11

Scotland Fire w/MA dispatched to 23 Decker Hill Rd for a Barn fire. The first in firefighter reported that the "HOUSE" was going end to end, not the barn. Heavy fire consumed the home and the building collapsed on the "A,B & C" corner with minutes of arrival. A indoor pool to the rear slowed crews operating to the rear addition do to safety concerns. Tanker were called in and used until several draft sites were in operation. The fire was under control in about 1.5 hours, Local and state FMO's are investigating the cause.

Detroit MI, Still Alarm 04-02-11

Detroit Fire transmitted a Still Alarm for 4846 Tarnow for a Garage fire, We were about 3 mile's down the road and decided to take it in. We found a one car garage with heavy smoke coming from the building. Engine 34 was first to arrive and pull their Bundle load and lay out to the hydrant. A ladder company pulled a red line from the opposite street. The fire was contained to the garage.

Lisbon Brush fire 04-10-11

Mid afternoon, Lisbon Fire was called to the area of Rt-169 and Rt-12 for a brush fire. This is a large, dense forest area with tight limited access roads. The total acreage burnt I am unsure of, I never saw the whole area and I heard reports of 4 acres to 15 acres from someone in the CMD structure. I would guess there was at least 70 acres in this area. All manpower has to be brought in by pick-up or ATV as accessing the fire was a mile and half away from any road..

Most of the transportation vehicles either stalled going up the steep hills or the UTV's would run out of gas to get to the fire. Water supply was portable pumps drafting from various locations within the woods (ie swamps,streams) alot of dead trees and brush made for a large fire load. the wind didn't help things either. a few high tension power poles were damaged during the fire. The fire got deep seated in the trees and roots, the scene was turned over to DEP around 19:00hrs

New London W/F w/special call 04-10-11

New London fire transmitted a working fire for a 2.5 wood frame, They encountered heavy fire condition at the front door with fire on the first and 2nd floor. Battalion 1 requested C-21 for FAST as all New London companies operated this fire. NLFD brought this fire under control in about 30min. This fire is under investigation by NLFMO More photos and short video here

Detroit MI, Box Alarm 04-02-11

Detroit Fire, Dispatch units from Battalion 6 to the area of Barker & Cadillac for a dwelling fire, fire due company's found heavy fire conditions and Dumped the monitor into a vacant dwelling, with out putting a dent in the flames. Heavy fire took hold of the holed of the dwelling. The fire was allowed to burn until the light pole burst into flames and the build next door stated to smoke. in about 20 mins the dwelling ended up on the ground.

Detroit Fire transmitted the Box on this home, first due found heavy fire conditions one the front of the building. Fire due engine dumped their monitor to knockdown the heavy fire. Crews had all the spot fires in-check in a short time. One lady stated she was watching TV and the whole front of the house went up in flames in seconds. I do not know if it was her house or not. Several fire bombing were accruing around the city in a short time.
