Detroit, MI. Box Alarm, Vacant dwelling w/FF rescue 10-28-10 Day 3

About and hour after the last fire, 02:30 Detroit Central dispatched a Box Alarm for Cinderlawn & Griggs. First arriving transmitted Stretching on a dwelling. Minor fire was showing from B side roof area with very little smoke. The truck went to the roof as the engine made their way to the 2nd floor. The winds were 20 to 40+mph.
As the engine worked the 2nd floor the truck opened the roof and vented the A side window. Sometime during this the B side window gave out. Smoke went from light brown to dense black in minutes.
You could hear banging and water bouncing off the walls from the #2 floor. The D side window Broke or was broken by the engine crew. In seconds yelling was heard from the #2 floor and the chief was notified, He ordered the evacuation horns and moved a ladder with help. The ladder was placed at the window sill, and contact was made with the trapped firefighter. As he climbed down, firefighters were bailing out several first floor windows. The firefighter from the #2 floor was asked if anyone was with him. He stated yes, At that time the window filled with fire. The 2nd firefighter was located coming down the interior stairs. All firefighter were accounted for at this time. A defensive attack for knockdown was ordered. In a short time all firefighters were finishing mopping up the fire. The rest of the story may come out someday......
